Alex Peterkin, PhD

Post Doctoral Fellow

Dr. Alex Peterkin is a Post-Doctoral Fellow and Psychological Associate at Mind Therapy Clinic. He received his B.A. in Psychology at the University of Virginia, his M.S. in Psychology at Old Dominion University, and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Palo Alto University. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at Pacific Comprehensive Health in Portland, OR.

Dr. Peterkin practices humanistic therapy. He believes the role of therapy is to provide a space for clients to learn who they are and how they can be their best selves. He helps clients to identify what needs are not currently being met, to overcome barriers to their goals, and to support their personal growth. He aims to build a relationship of trust and understanding with his clients and use that relationship to find unique solutions to each client’s difficulties.

Dr. Peterkin is trained in conducting individual, family, and group therapy for adults. His therapeutic approach works well for those experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and interpersonal stress. He also has special interests in adult ADHD and men’s mental health. While his humanistic therapy is inherently unstructured, he can incorporate more structured approaches when needed, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
