SUMMARY:The Next Right Thing
DESCRIPTION:–\nThis group is for individuals currently curious about how their coping behaviors may no longer be serving them. When we are in emotional pain\, we can make choices in the short term that lead to feeling worse in the long term. The Next Right Thing is a process and skills group to help clients learn more about how addiction to substances\, compulsive behaviors\, and other current coping strategies can hinder positive change in day-to-day life. \nThis group is for clients who want to gain insight into what is currently getting in the way of choosing healthier ways to cope and provide them with a safe\, judgment-free space to address unhealthy cycles of coping. \nFacilitator: Matt Blagys\, PhD

SUMMARY:Mindful Process Group
DESCRIPTION:– \nThe Mindful Process Group explores mindful psychology\, the intersection between mindfulness\, Buddhist psychology\, and traditional Western psychology. Group members reflect on their personal experiences as they pertain to various concepts\, ideas\, and philosophies. \nGroup members share and process their feelings and thoughts with one another as they emerge during the group process. This group would be helpful for all individuals\, particularly those who want to lead a less anxiety-filled\, more grounded\, centered life. Changing one’s perspective and attitude about life can help attain this emotional state. \nFacilitated by: Neil S. Kobrin\, PhD

SUMMARY:Self Compassion Group
DESCRIPTION:Practice self-compassion techniques\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur high-pressure culture can influence individuals to create unrealistic self-expectations that often result in feelings of shame and inadequacy. This type of self-judgment can be particularly problematic amongst survivors of trauma and other painful unresolved life experiences\, such as addiction. In this group\, members practice self-compassion techniques to effectively manage stress and difficult emotions\, as well as\, improve relationships and create inner peace. \nFacilitated by: Christine Valdez\, PhD & Wally Gustafson\, PsyD (Clinical Supervisor: Matt Blagys\, PhD. #PSY 21802) \n

SUMMARY:Post-Traumatic Growth
DESCRIPTION:–\nTraumatic and severely stressful\, upsetting events can trigger anxiety\, depression\, posttraumatic stress\, and unhelpful ways of coping with the overwhelming effects of such major life crises. Posttraumatic growth involves an intentional attempt to understand and assign meaning to traumatic events\, transforming negative effects into positive meanings and change. \nMembers re-examine events through different cognitive perspectives to reconstruct core beliefs about one’s self\, the world\, and the future\, which are frequently disrupted in the aftermath of trauma. Exploring and eliciting posttraumatic growth can serve as a springboard for survivors to find positive aspects of having endured adversity and to take positive steps in their lives. \nThe group focus is to enhance positive change in life to rise to a higher level of functioning\, including: \n\nAppreciation of life\nPositive relationships with others\nNew possibilities in life\nPersonal strength\nSpiritual change\nLifestyle changes\nIncreased compassion for self and others\n\nFacilitated by: Christine Valdez\, PhD

SUMMARY:Stress and Addiction Group
DESCRIPTION:–\nThe Stress and Addiction group is a process-oriented group that helps clients develop social skills\, stress management\, and self-awareness via peer interaction\, support\, and feedback. \nMembers learn that they are not alone in their suffering and foster a supportive community that will allow them to gain insight into their thoughts\, feelings\, and behavior; thus\, will guide them toward a more fulfilling life. \nThis group is best suited for those struggling with anxiety\, depression\, and trauma-related issues in addition to chemical dependence and/or other addiction\, which can be defined as a coping strategy that has stopped working and is potentially life-threatening. The group supports clients who are abstinence-based as well as harm-reduction-focused. We also welcome those who are ambivalent and just want support around their change process. In essence\, we focus on the underlying drivers of unhealthy\, possibly harmful\, coping strategies to create a new way of managing life and its difficulties. \nFacilitated by: Alex Del Prete\, PsyD
