SUMMARY:Self-Acceptance Group
DESCRIPTION:– \nImagine accepting yourself. Accepting your strengths\, talents and\nabilities as well as your limitations\, flaws and shortcomings.\nThat is the focus of this group. It is a group based on the growing\ndata that reveals how the emotions of guilt and shame differ; that guilt\ncan be productive and motivating; whereas shame can be debilitating.\nWe live in a culture that promotes shame and the belief that we are\n“not good enough”. It doesn’t take much for us to feel “badly” about\nourselves; a disapproving look; a perceived failure; conflict in\nrelationships; the experience of trauma. And to “get rid” of the\ninternal distress that accompanies shame\, we seek solace in\nbehaviors that are damaging; using substances\, food\, gambling\, sex\,\nand seeking perfection. We can then feel alienated\, lost and utterly\nalone. \nThis can all be changed. With self-forgiveness and self-acceptance.\nThis group will start by providing an alternative conceptual framework\nfor relating differently to yourself and to your life-experience\, both\npast and present. The initial focus of this group is psychoeducational\nand homework heavy. It will then transition into experiencing self\nacceptance. Throughout\, there will be room for process-oriented\ncheck-ins and discussions. \nThis group is for anyone who is willing to do the hard work of self-\nchange. \nFacilitated by: Laureen Turner Worden\, MS\, PhD & Lauren Lucitt\, PsyD (Clinical Supervisor: Julie Sauber\, Psy.D. #PSY30179) \n
