As technology rapidly displaces genuine human interaction, patients are increasingly trapped in a debilitating loss of belonging and hope. This upcoming webinar is an urgent call for clinicians to confront the cognitive and relational patterns fueling this disconnection. Leveraging critical research in attachment and interpersonal relatedness, we will provide essential, practical strategies—from relational curiosity to social prescribing.

By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

• Explain the difference between loneliness and social isolation and identify individual, relational, and environmental factors that contribute to loneliness and psychological distress.
• Assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns that maintain loneliness, including diminished social agency, negative expectations, avoidance, and restricted patterns of meaningful connection.
• Apply evidence-informed clinical interventions—including relational curiosity, cognitive-behavioral strategies, and social prescribing—to reduce loneliness, strengthen meaningful connection, and foster hope.

Michael Groat, PhD, MSc

Dr. Michael Groat is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Lindner Center of Hope. He previously spent 16 years in leadership roles at nationally renowned hospitals, residential, and outpatient treatment programs, providing evidence-based mental health and addiction services for children and adults. He also serves as Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Information on Continuing Education Credit for Health Professionals

• CE credits for psychologists are provided by the Spiritual Competency Academy (SCA), which is co-sponsoring this program. The Spiritual Competency Academy is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Spiritual Competency Academy maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
• The California Board of Behavioral Sciences accepts CE credits for LCSW, LPCC, LEP, and LMFT license renewal for programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.
• LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs, LMFTs, and other mental health professionals from states other than California need to check with their state licensing board to determine whether they accept programs offered by approved sponsors of CE by the American Psychological Association.
• SCA is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider CEP16887) for licensed nurses in California. RNs must retain their certificate of attendance for four years after the course concludes.
