Laureen Turner Worden, MS, PhD

Assistant Clinical Director and Psychologist

Dr. Turner Worden received her undergraduate degree from McGill University; a Masters of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Florida; and a Master of Science Degree and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oregon.  She completed her Internship at Shands Teaching Hospital, University of Florida, Gainesville, with an emphasis on Adult and Child Health Psychology.

 

Most recently, she was the Clinical Director of one of Reflections Treatment Center’s residential houses and was the Clinical Director of Reflection’s IOP/PHP program for many years before that. Prior to joining Reflections, Dr. Turner Worden worked as a primary therapist with me at Alta Mira Recovery Program and has also been a Clinical Director, Clinical Supervisor and Primary Therapist in residential settings, hospital settings, outpatient mental health clinics, and private practice. Dr. Turner Worden’s clinical conceptualizations and interventions have been informed by the works of Leslie Greenberg, Ph.D., who created Emotion Focused Therapy; Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., the creator of DBT; and Bruce Perry, M.D., Ph.D., and Janina Fisher, Ph.D. who are at the forefront of current research and treatment approaches in the field of trauma. Dr. Laureen Turner Worden has participated in Level I and Level II trainings in Emotionally Focused Therapy with Les Greenberg, Ph.D.; completed the year-long intensive training process in DBT; and has 2 levels of training in EMDR. Her therapeutic style is interpersonal, experiential, developmental and process oriented, as she strives to meet her clients where they are at, and create in-vivo experiences to foster therapeutic growth and to deepen learning.

 

Dr. Turner Worden has a sub-specialty in Clinical Supervision, having engaged in research and scientific inquiry related to the training of therapists. Dr. Turner Worden has served as clinical faculty at the University of Oregon, during which time she supervised undergraduate and graduate students, and created an interdisciplinary course entitled “Helping Skills for Non- Counselors”, a course which focused on teaching micro-counseling skills and received rave reviews from students. For many years, Dr. Turner Worden also assumed a leadership role at an APA approved training program, teaching Interns and Post Doctoral Fellows, the art and practice of Psychotherapy.
